Beta testing released for Big Game Huntr on Nokia S60
Big Game Huntr; a mobile location based game which encourages emergent behaviour by allowing the general public to design their own games around any subject to be played in a place of their own choosing.
Players are required to capture photos of specified objects or actions, points are awarded depending on the location in which they take the photo.
Big Game Huntr is designed to work alongside Twitter and TwitPic, but don’t worry if you don’t have a Twitter account you can still play the game. Once you have registered you can set up your own event online using the admin area of BigGameHuntr.com, this is where you can create your own event in a location of your choice, set a list of clues, choose the zones you want to use (this is the only limitation we have at the minute we are limiting the number of zones to 6 - if you would like this to be increased please contact us at and we will see what we can do) and finally strategically positioning your zones on the map.
If you don’t want to setup your own event you can play other events that have already been setup (this is the beauty of BigGameHuntr if you’re in an area where a game has already been setup why not participate in that game?). The mobile client logs into the system and retrieves you current position and downloads the list of events that you can play. Once you have selected your event the mobile plots your location on the map and provides you with an interface that is simple to use and consistent with other map applications. To score maximum points the player must move into the zones and upload photos related to the clues to that event. There are three different size zones Green, Orange and Red (green zone [2 points], orange zone [5 points] and red zone [10 points]). The players select the clue they wish to take a photo of and upload the photo to the BigGameHuntr website, and if you have logged into the game with your Twitter account then the game data will be posted on Twitter and your photos uploaded to TwitPic.
e-Campus
A project set up by LUSU to design and develop a short movie clips/adverts for the network of public displays at Lancaster (The displays serve a dual purpose - to provide a platform for advanced research and to enhance the experience of staff, students and visitors to the campus).
The displays can show many different types of media ranging from video clips to web pages. Which takes us nicely onto the next part of the project a single webpage with dynamic content being driven from RSS feeds that are already in place that aren’t being utilised.
Create, Green Lancaster & LUVU are the three organisations that CM DESIGNX are working with to develop the creative designs for the public displays.
LGEC
LGEC are an organisation set up to promote learning for action and positive global change. A local development education centre to Develop awareness of local and global issues and the links between them, Strengthen communities and build the capacity for positive change and Support action that contributes to a fairer and more sustainable world. LGEC provides it’s member with educational resources, to evolve in today’s society LGEC needed a new way of storing data on their members, resources and loans.
The project is a back end library system that keeps track of loans, memberships and to be able to search for resources more effectively and efficiently. As well as the back end LGEC wanted to provide an extra service to its members by allowing them to reserve resources online as straight forward as possible for new and existing LGEC customers. The design/structure for the library database was required to be kept the same throughout from the website to the library system. Allow though we can’t give you access to the library system we have taken a screenshot of the system and posted it within this article.

Big Game Huntr
Nominated in the social networking category of the Flash Lite Developers Challenge People’s Choice Award.
Big Game Huntr, a location-based hunting game populated by user generated content based around communities of players. The premise of the game is to allow users to generate their own communities of hunts and promote social networking.
Big Game Huntr appeals to both existing location based gamers and to encourage new audiences from those who had previously not considered this a use for mobile devices.
The game entails an admin player to set up the hunt (zones and objects). Each player then connects to the community via their mobile device and retrieves the hunt data (set of objects and zones). Once a player finds an object a photo is taken and uploaded to the community where the photo is scored depending on the location and the zone in which the photo was taken. The player who scores the most points from the photos they have uploaded wins the game.
